Efficient large-scale BGP simulations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Simulation has been the method of choice for analyzing large, complex, and highly volatile systems. One of these systems is the inter-domain routing infrastructure of the Internet. Despite the need for high quality Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) simulation tools, traditional BGP simulators have limitations either in their modeling fidelity or in their scalability. In this work we introduce BGP++, a scalable BGP simulator that employs state-of-art techniques to address the abstraction-scalability trade-off. BGP++ builds on high quality software in network simulation, routing and paralleldistributed simulation to deliver a detailed yet scalable implementation of BGP. Moreover, with respect to the needs of researchers and operators, BGP++ has a CISCO-like configuration language, a seamless partitioning engine for parallel-distributed simulations and a configuration toolset that expedites common simulation configuration tasks.

Distributed Packet-Level Simulation for BGP Networks under Genesis
The complexity and dynamics of the Internet is driving the demand for scalable and efficient network simulation. Parallel and distributed network simulation techniques make it possible to utilize the power of multiple processors or clusters of workstations to simulate large-scale networks efficiently. However, synchronization overheads inherent in parallel and distributed simulations limit the ...
متن کاملA performance evaluation of BGP-based traffic engineering
Many Internet Service Providers tune the configuration of the Border Gateway Protocol on their routers to control their traffic. Content providers often need to control their outgoing traffic while access providers need to control their incoming traffic. We show, by means of measurements and simulations, that controlling the flow of the incoming interdomain traffic is a difficult problem. For t...

متن کاملUsing Regional Routing to Improve the Scalability and Security of Inter-Domain Multipath Routing
Multipath routing has been extended to Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), the current de facto inter-domain routing protocol, to address the reliability and performance issues of the current Internet. However, inter-domain multipath routing introduces a significant challenge for scalability due to the large scale of the inter-domain routing system. At the same time it also introduces new challenges...
